The paper deals with the modifications of the chemical properties of the soils in a surface-drainage system. The soil samples were collected at an interval of 20 years, in 1975 and 1995, from four 100-cm deep soil profiles. The values obtained for the pH, the humus, the CaCO 3 , the exchangeable Na, the soluble salts and the Cl - , SO 4 2- and CO 3 2- anions have been compared.
