The object of research in the present paper is a specific type of analytical word combinations, consisting of a verb and a verbal noun ending in –ne in Bulgarian. The terminological diversity in their naming is accounted for; the reasons for their occurrence in the language are reviewed; a special consideration is given to the controversial aspects in determining the syntactic function of the verbal noun.
