STUDY REGARDING THE INFLUENCE OF THE CALVING INTERVAL ON MILK PRODUCTION IN ROMANIAN BLACK AND WHITE COWS pag. 3-6
Simona Baul, G. Stanciu, Ludovic Toma Cziszter, Stelian Acatincăi, I. Tripon, Silvia Erina, Dinu Gavojdianhe aim of this paper was to study the influence of the calving interval on the days in milk and total milk production traits in Romanian Black and White cows raised in the Didactical Station farm. Researches were carried out on 125 lactations, divided into three classes according to the calving interval length. The classes were up to 350 days, from 351 to 450 days, and above 450 days. Total days in milk increased from 260.3±17.03 when calving interval was below 350 days to 331.6±5.28 when calving interval was 351-450 days. The maximum days in milk was obtained for a calving interval equal or longer than 450 days (431.3±8.55).Milk yield per whole lactation increased from 4823.4±368.18 kg when calving interval was up to 350 days to a maximum of 5280.4±129.35 kg for a calving interval between 351 and 450 days. For a calving interval over 450 days the milk yield was 5043.6±114.86 kg. In conclusion, lactation length was significantly influenced (p<0.001) by the length of calving interval, while milk production indices were not (p>0.05).

DownloadSOME ASPECTS OF ASPARAGUS BRACHYPHYLLUS TUCZ. (ASPARAGACEAE) ANATOMY pag. 7-12
Rodica BercuThe article comprises the investigation of some vegetative organs (adventitious root, climbing stem and cladodes) anatomy of a popular plant native of East Europe (Ukraine) and South-eastern Europe (Romania), Asparagus brachyphyllus Turcz. The root possesses a typical monocot’s primary structure with a great number of vascular bundles, each of them possessing one metaxylem vessel, some protoxylem vessels and phloem elements. The aerial shoot stele consists of numerous vascular poorly developed collateral bundles. The mechanical tissue is absent except the sclerenchymatous pericycle surrounding the shoot stele. The cladode is more or less elliptical in shape, a differentiated mesophyll and with a layer of clorenchymatous cells and a poorly developed vascular bundles vein. The poorly developed vascular system (in the adventitious root, shoots and leaf), the few mechanical elements present in the aerial part and some sclerenchymatous cells in the blade are in accordance with the plant pendant condition. In literature the cladode anatomy is less described whereas those of roots and shoots almost lack. The few mechanical elements, present in the aerial shoots and the poor developed vascular system and the developed cortex are in accordance with the plant prostrate condition.

Oana Danci, Marcel Danci, Flavius BerbenteaThe growth in vitro of several potato cultivars (Amelia, Christian, Nicoleta and Roclas) on media containing plant growth regulators has been studied with a view to accelerating micropropagation of slow-growing cultivars. Whilst 0,5 mg/l GA 3 +0.1 mg/l IAA substantially increased the height of plantlets of most cultivars, the combination of 0,1 mg/l GA 3 +0,1 mg/l IAA+ 1,5 mg/l BAP was more effective in increasing the number of shoots which could subsequently be cultured. Using PM medium, a specific medium designed for potato, slow-growing or recalcitrant cultivars, such as Amelia, could be multiplied more rapidly than on basic Murashige & Skoog medium. Cultivars studied showed wide variation in their response to the plant regulators, best results being obtained for the cultivar Nicoleta.

Pompilica Iagăru, Gligor Ciortea, R. IagăruMass multiplication of seed potatoes may be achieved in specialized areas or farms, outside the traditionally closed areas, and is based on maintaining a low level of viral infections, especially the dangerous ones, caused by potato leaf roll virus and Y virus. In our country the seed potato renewal is made on a very limited extent. This is due to many causes, especially the economical and managerial ones. Considering also the fact that we carry out our activity in a hill-mountain area (South-East of Transylvania) where whether is colder and with heavier precipitations, providing very favourable conditions for potato cultivation, we intend to emphasize the area’s potential for the organization of potato production and multiplication, thus helping the farmers.

DownloadRESEARCH ON THE AMINO-ACID CHANGES IN THE WHEAT GRAIN AFTER INFESTATION BY RHIZOPERTA DOMINICA pag. 39-44
Lavinia Mădălina Micu, Doru Ion Petanec, Ioan Pălăgeşiu, Snejana DamianovThe presence of storage pests in the stored produce leads to the impurification of the latter and to the diminution of bread-making and germinating features of the seeds, sometimes making them improper for use as such. The biological value of the proteins in the wheat grains is high, since they contain all essential amino-acids, acids that the human body alone cannot synthesise. Compared to the requirements of the human body, requirements that somehow limit the biological value of the proteins in the wheat, the amino-acid lysine is in small amounts; compared to lysine, there are even smaller amounts of methionine, isoleukine, and triptophane. The goal of research was to monitor the changes of the amino-acids in the wheat grains infested by Rhizoperta dominica. They have published relatively very little on the effects of the infestation by this insect of essential and non-essential amino-acids in the wheat grain. Results of bio-chemical analyses with modern methods, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) shall be supplied to all interested farmers, to milling and bread-making enterprises, as well as to similar academic institutions in Romania and abroad. Quantitative changes of the amino-acids were monitored on a number of 5 sample variants infested with 25, 50, 75, and 100 insects of Rhizoperta dominica, respectively. As a result of the measurements, we can see that the essential amino-acid the most consumed by Rhizoperta dominica is valine, followed by isoleukine and histidine, while the most consumed non-essential amino-acid preferred by this pest species is praline. As a conclusion, after a month of attack by the pest species Rhizoperta dominica, there is considerable biological value decrease of the proteins in wheat caused by the consumption of essential amino-acids.

Mariana Niculescu, Ilinca Imbrea, Alma Lioara NicolinThe territory under research is located in the Lotru Mountains, part of the Meridional Carpathians. Lotru Mountains are dominated by the platform between Şteflesti Peak (2212m), and Cristeşti Peak (2233m). This platform spreads a branch to the south-western part, and is made up by Piatra Albă height (2179m) – Preajba - Tâmpa (1190m). The height descends to Lotrului Valley, and this is it when it curves to the east (Obârşia Lotrului). The biggest drainage tank of these mountains, with an important flow and energy is Lotrului tank. Its springs flow from Parângul Mare Mountains, from a glacial river. In the beginning, it flows from south to the north, and then suddenly turns to the right, in the pace called Obârşia Lotrului. The results we are presented in this paper. They show big differences between the values of β estradiol in different stages of gestation in Landrace bearing sows. As far as the level of progesterone is concerned, it reaches rather close values with a peak in the 3 rd month of gestation, also close to the value in the 2 nd month of gestation. As for macro-elements, their level fits both data in literature and our own data resulted from a study on bearing sows raised in intensive systems.

DownloadOPPOSITION DU GENRE CHEZ LES NOMS DES ANIMAUX pag. 149-152

DownloadPLANT NAMES IN ROMANIAN AND ENGLISH – A CONTRASTIVE APPROACH pag. 157-162
Oana BoldeaThe present paper studies the names of various plants that grow in Britain and Romania. The aim of the research is to discover the various mechanisms that are put into action when naming plants, namely what criteria are used when giving a plant its name. As we could see, sometimes the name provides information as to what practices were used involving that plant (that is the function of the plant, which can be medicinal, religious or practical). At other times, the name gives a description of the flower in question, or tells about its whereabouts.

Oana BoldeaAn expression is an idiom, if there are things that speakers may know about its form or its meaning, which they wouldn't be able to figure out by simply knowing everything else about the language. The paper deals with the lexical idiomatic expressions in the context of teaching English. These are expressions the meaning of which cannot be understood simply by putting together the meanings of the words making them up. The purpose of the paper is to draw some attention on them, and on the importance of teaching them at the English classes, because making use of ready-made expressions creates a sense of group solidarity. The interest of the paper lies in the idioms containing names of animals. We will see that there are several possible classifications of idioms: according to the animal they name, according to meaning, the function or the form they have. We will compare some English expressions with possible Romanian translations, paying attention at the same time to the differences that appear in the attitude of the English and the Romanians towards one animal or another.

DownloadTHE MAIN WAY OF SOLVING CONFLICTS FROM A SCHOOL MANAGER’S PERSPECTIVE pag. 191-194
Codruţa Gavrilă, Maria Palicica, Mirela SamfiraThis study aims at presenting the main way of solving conflicts in school organisations, from the school manager’s point of view. The conflict, a form of opposition based on the incompatibility between goals, intentions, and values of the parties involved is natural and even desirable within an organisation. Among its positive effects we could mention the following: awareness of the problems, supply of useful information on the organisation problems, stimulation of curiosity and creativeness, increase of internal cohesion of the members, determination of changes. The solution of the conflicts should represent an important part of a manager’s activity. In this sense, competences allow him/her to play different roles, thus facilitating the rapid adaptation to such situations. On the ground of the questionnaire applied to a number of 15 managers of pre-academic education institutions, we have proved that efficient managers have behaviour traits typical to the co-operative style: they trust their employees’ integrity and competence, they help their subordinates, they have great expectations from their achievements, and they are good team workers.

DownloadWHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT FOR SMES TO INVEST IN COMPETENCE DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES? pag. 199-204
Mihaela Ioana Iacob, V. V. PanteaIn this paper we studied Why is it so important innovation to the business itself? First, because innovative firms tend to grow faster, thereby creating greater profits for the owners and investors. Second, whereas continuous improvement with the business can improve profitability and performance, it is insufficient in itself to keep the firm ahead of the competition. It is innovation that creates competitive advantage and new market opportunities, not just in terms or new products or services but in alternative ways of delivering or offering existing services that offer specific benefits to the customer, or new ways of managing customer relationships.

DownloadMANAGING CHANGE IN ORGANIZATIONS pag. 205-212
Mihaela Ioana Iacob, V. V. PanteaHow do we come to acknowledge that a change is necessary and what do we do to render it useless?! Quite easy: when the door closes and you realize the keys are inside you need another key, another door ... Unfortunately, you find yourself in the midst of a situation you have to solve as quickly as possible, with as less costs and consequences as possible. It is important, nevertheless, to find out what caused the problem so that next time you avoid it, for instance, instinctively closing the door. Independent of our choice, sometimes the door may stand for a chronic problem, a serious dysfunction of concentration capacity, and the draught that shut the door only for a favourable element. Change represents a quasi - obsessive preoccupation of organizational sociology, a tendency generated by the importance given to bureaucratic inefficiency, by an unstable external environment, by the problems organization managers come across. A clear and profound perception for change in the case of organization members is essential in the change process. Change perception is important, but not enough, reason for which it must be supported by organization staff, managers and employees. The organization staff needs support in understanding that present organizational structure has to be adapted to new imposed needs, dictated by the market they activate in, that the present IT system has to be improved and turned into an efficient tool at manager’s hand, and their decisions need a participant substantiation, by using modern management methods and techniques. This step is essential as it supposes, in fact, the emergence of organization staff conviction that present management system and staff policy are not compatible with market demands. Understanding the necessity of change requires, first of all, the knowledge of the fact that a continuation of all management level and execution processes adopted by the organization can lead, inevitably, to critical situations for that organization.

Also the number of employment opportunities has decreased constantly, reducing the share of the active population and especially the employed population within the whole population. The statistical data on the labour market puts the North-West Region in an unfavourable position compared to UE25; however this is a balanced position in relation to the national average. Both on the national and regional level, the labour market is characterised by inflexibility, delayed reactions, reduced adaptability to the dynamics of the economy, the inability to create new job opportunities mainly in branches with high added value.

DownloadTHE CONTRIBUTIONS IN FORMING FUTURE SPECIALISTS IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT DURING THE FRENCH COURSE pag. 277-281
Elvira OroianRural development, local products and agricultural tourism are fashionable concepts that future specialists in agriculture must be able to use and be familiarized with, and also to correctly comprehend in order to employ them. This paper initially outlines the notional framework of rural development or more exactly that of local development and further debates the issue of local products “produits de terroir” and their importance in the development of rural tourism. In order to form competent and well-trained people, the part of the French teacher is to choose the course thematic according to specialty. Therefore, the themes of “local products”, “rural tourism” are chosen to observe whether a connection can be made between them. The purpose of this paper is, on the one hand, to enrich the linguistic knowledge through the selection of authentic French texts, insisting on the phonetic and etymological appropriation between “territoire” and “terroir”, and on the other, to develop the communication ability in a foreign language, French in our case, a communication that should have as a support texts that are attractive, interesting and rich in ideas. In this respect, in order for the terms to be correctly comprehended, the notions should be defined exactly, to be able to operate with them in the future.

The answers to these quizzes allowed us to assess three intellectual factors of the creative potential, i.e. fluidity, flexibility, and originality (individually, group, item, and trial). The conclusions led us to the general idea of the need for a creative scientific climate in educational environments (family, school, work place, etc.).

DownloadTHE ENGLISH OF AGRICULTURE: COMPOUNDS AND DERIVATIVES WITH ‘CULTURE’ pag. 289-293
Anica Perkovic, Georgeta Raţă, Ioan PetromanAgriculture (whose name was attested for the first time between 1425 and 1475) has been developing from times immemorial. New agricultural branches have brought about new terms to designate them, from horticulture (attested ever since 1670-1680) and going on with floriculture , arboriculture , terms appeared during the 19 th century, and with mariculture , monoculture , polyculture , and citriculture , terms appeared during the 20 th century, to permaculture (a term that appeared sometime in the 1970s), or to aeroculture , agrosilviculture , algaculture , animaliculture , boviculture , caniculture , heliculture , mosaiculture , multiculture , nutriculture , oleiculture , oligoculture , ostriculture , pecudiculture , plasticulture , spongiculture , terraculture / terriculture , and zooculture , that still do not have a “birth certificate” (they are attested, but linguists cannot yet say for sure when they appeared for the first time). This means 300 years of linguistic creativity enhanced by the need to define new realities, and a relatively short inventory of nouns (designating both the agricultural branch and the agricultural ‘agent’), adjectives, and adverbs – quite difficult to understand and learn by students in agriculture, particularly when it is about synonyms designating the same agricultural branch or about derivatives that follow no pattern discernible whatsoever.

The ultra skinny female ideal portrayed in the media (the 'imagined female community') is unrealistic for most of them (the 'imagined female identity'). Our paper presents the results of an analysis of a corpus of 52 issues of a Romanian TV Guide Magazine ( ProTV Magazin /2003). The corpus of 64 food advertisements is analysed from the point of view of the lexical domains their key-words are circumscribed to, in an attempt to see if there is any overlapping at all between the image promoted by the media and what women would look like if they ate the food advertised for.

We have visited the Kronborg Castle, analysed its tourism potential, and discovered that, had Shakespeare not set the plot of his tragedy there, the Kronborg Castle would have remained anonymous, as many other Danish castles, since it does not have much to offer as a historical site, compared to other historical tourism sites. The conclusion of the paper is that tourism should not be practiced unilaterally: decision-making people in the field of tourism should take all this into account when deciding tourism offers.

We have visited this house located on top of the Passy Hill and we came to the conclusion that it seems to have been designed especially for Balzac so that he can escape creditors through the back door. Besides this, the study and the desk on which Balzac used to write using a pen and ink, the imposing yet modest bookcase he used to document, where anybody can read documents, manuscripts, original editions, etc., all remake the past and give you the illusion of reality.

Georgeta Raţă, Cornelia Petroman, Ioan Petroman, Anica PerkovicThe main objective of this paper is to show the importance water, and particularly stagnant waters (including lakes), has had in Romanians’ history. The study area is linguistics: the paper presents an analysis of the Romanian vocabulary of stagnant waters. The method consists of the analysis of relevant semantic traits of the words. The results of the analysis show that both loanwords and derivatives designating stagnant waters and related terms are in perfect equilibrium. The conclusion: during history, Romanians have first borrowed a considerable number of words designating stagnant waters and/or related concepts, and then forged their own vocabulary (derivatives and compounds) of stagnant waters starting from the borrowed root-words. All categories show how important water has always been in the history of the Romanian people.

The study area is linguistics: the paper presents an analysis of the English vocabulary of the compounds with eco- . The method consists of the statistical analysis of the eco- words: share of the modern English vocabulary, structure of the compounds, parts of speech containing eco- , and share of hyphenated words with eco- . The results of our analysis show that English eco- words advertising Indian eco-tourism, for instance, are twice as numerous as English eco- words attested by language dictionaries. DownloadASSESSING ENVIRONMENTAL INTEGRATION IN EU AGRICULTURE POLICY pag. 337-342
Sorin Mihai StanciuFour policy instruments will be presented in this section: agri-environment schemes, good farming practice (GFP), cross-compliance and less favoured area payments. The first three are most clearly designed for improving environmental management whereas for LFA allowances this appears to be a side benefit of their principal objective of ensuring the continuation of farming in marginal areas of the EU. The exception is the measure for areas with environmental restrictions. Agri-environment schemes and LFAs provide incentive or compensation payments while GFP and cross-compliance introduce minimum standards farmers have to comply with to be eligible for different types of subsidies. Evidence for improved environmental management by farmers as a result of the application of a policy instrument is strongest for agri-environment schemes, but even in this case monitoring and evaluation procedures have to be improved.

Sorin Mihai StanciuThis report aims to provide a fair reflection of the progress, the achievements and obstacles in the integration of environmental concerns into EU agriculture policy, based on indicators developed in the IRENA operation. It also tackles limitations to successful policy implementation at Member State level, and challenges ahead. Policy examples from some Member States aim to show good practice in agri-environmental policy implementation or design. Due to the scope of the IRENA operation the analysis focuses on the EU-27 Member States. Assessing progress of environmental integration in any policy field is a challenging task. Progress depends not only on institutional structures and processes, or on the importance of environmental issues to policy making in a given policy area. It is also influenced by factors outside immediate policy influence, such as market trends, technological developments, international trade issues and interactions with other sectors. It is beyond the scope of this report to provide a full analysis of all relevant factors.

DownloadCASE STUDIES ON THE INTEGRATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS AND THE NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT pag. 349-354
Cosmin Gabriel Tabără Amânar, Sorin Mihai StanciuWhere the causes of environmental change associated with agriculture are understood, usually they can be traced to changes in farm management and land use. These include the use of new or larger quantities of inputs, changes in the farming practices employed, variations in the numbers, distribution and methods of rearing livestock, and alterations in cropping patterns and landscape features. These direct causes of environmental change may include the cessation of previous farm management practices as well as the adoption of new ones. Some can be isolated individually, as in the case of direct impacts arising from the use of a single pesticide. Others are viewed more conveniently as changes in farming systems or new management approaches. The replacement of mixed crop and livestock systems with specialist arable or livestock farms and the displacement of low input dryland agriculture with more intensive irrigated production are examples of changes in farming systems.

The essence of the model is the following: the settlement is determined by four spheres –nature, society, economy and infrastructure- which are in close connections with each other. It can be modelled by a tetrahedron where each sphere (the four sides of the geometric solid) are in a very close and inseparable connection, the interaction can be observed at the edges. If there is a change in any elements (spheres) of the settlements, it affects the other three elements (spheres), as well, so the tetrahedron transforms completely.
